Terms of Service

The rules governing access to Lauyer, its MCP tools, live legal-source searches, AI summaries, subscriptions, and credits.

Last updated: 30 August 2026

1. Operator and acceptance

Lauyer is operated by Pedro Martins. These Terms govern the website, account system, OAuth authorization server, MCP endpoint, legal-source search and retrieval tools, AI summaries, subscriptions, credits, and related services collectively called the Service.

By creating an account, connecting an MCP client, approving access, purchasing a plan or credits, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, AI & Data Use Policy, and Billing & Refunds Policy. If you use Lauyer for an organization, you confirm that you can bind that organization.

2. Eligibility and professional responsibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a contract. Lauyer may be used by lawyers, legal and compliance professionals, HR teams, researchers, businesses, and other users working with Portuguese legal information.

Lauyer is a research tool, not a law firm, lawyer, court, public authority, official gazette, legal publisher, or substitute for qualified professional advice. Using Lauyer does not create a lawyer-client, fiduciary, employment, or advisory relationship with Pedro Martins.

3. Accounts and authentication

You may sign in with Google or with a verified email address and password. You must provide accurate information, keep credentials and devices secure, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access to privacy@lauyer.org.

You are responsible for activity under your account and for MCP clients you authorize. Do not share sessions or authorization tokens, impersonate another person, create abusive accounts, or attempt to access another user’s account or consent.

4. MCP clients and consent

Lauyer allows compatible clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP software to request tool access. Those clients are independent third-party services with their own terms, privacy practices, storage, and security controls.

When you approve an MCP consent request, the client may use the scopes displayed on the consent screen until the authorization expires or is revoked. Approve only a flow you initiated in a client you trust. Prompts, outputs, and tool results may also be retained by that client. Contact privacy@lauyer.org if you need help revoking an authorization that the client cannot revoke.

5. Live legal sources

Lauyer searches and retrieves Portuguese court decisions from DGSI and legislation or official publications from Diário da República. Searches are performed against upstream sources live; Lauyer does not operate those sources or maintain an authoritative copy of their legal corpus.

Upstream websites may be incomplete, delayed, unavailable, changed, incorrectly indexed, or subject to their own terms and technical limits. Always open the original source, confirm the document version and status, and check for amendments, revocations, appeals, later case law, rectifications, and official publication details.

6. AI summaries and generated output

AI summaries are probabilistic and may omit context, misunderstand a holding, confuse operative text and commentary, or invent facts, citations, dates, provisions, procedural history, or legal effects. A summary may be based only on a headnote or excerpt when full text is unavailable.

Never submit, file, publish, advise, discipline, dismiss, approve, reject, or make a legal, employment, compliance, financial, or other consequential decision based only on an AI summary. Compare every material statement with the official source and apply independent professional judgment.

7. Your queries and responsibilities

  • Use lawful search terms and submit only information you are authorized to process.
  • Avoid putting confidential, privileged, trade-secret, special-category, criminal-offence, employee, client, or third-party personal data into queries unless you have a lawful basis and appropriate safeguards.
  • Assess whether your professional, contractual, ethical, secrecy, records-management, or data-protection duties permit use of an external AI or MCP service.
  • Review outputs for accuracy, relevance, bias, confidentiality, and lawful use before relying on or sharing them.

8. Plans, credits, and taxes

The Pro plan costs €10 per month unless checkout clearly displays another price or promotion. It renews automatically each month until canceled and includes the usage allowance shown at purchase. You may also buy optional credits in whole-euro amounts from €10 to €50. Each euro grants 100 request units and 4 AI-summary units. No billing obligation begins before you expressly confirm a checkout purchase.

Stripe processes payments and credit fulfilment. Prices, applicable taxes, renewal timing, included usage, credit amount, units granted, and the total charge are shown before purchase. Purchased credits expire 12 months after purchase, are personal to the account, non-transferable, not legal tender, and not redeemable for cash. The Billing & Refunds Policy forms part of these Terms.

9. Usage Limits

Search, retrieval, and AI tools may have per-request, daily, cost, concurrency, or source-specific limits. Limits protect users, upstream services, and infrastructure and may differ by plan or tool.

We may reject or delay requests, reduce fan-out, suspend AI summaries, or require additional credits when a quota is reached. Attempts to evade quotas through multiple accounts, automation, token sharing, or request splitting are prohibited.

10. Acceptable use

  • Do not attack, overload, scrape at abusive scale, reverse engineer, tamper with, probe, or disrupt Lauyer, its authentication, MCP endpoint, payment flow, or upstream sources.
  • Do not bypass rate limits, quotas, credits, subscriptions, access controls, consent screens, or security measures.
  • Do not resell accounts, tokens, credits, or raw Service access, or use Lauyer to create an unauthorized competing corpus or service.
  • Do not use the Service for unlawful surveillance, discrimination, harassment, deception, unauthorized profiling, or decisions that violate employment, consumer, professional, or data-protection law.
  • Do not represent AI output as an official court, government, lawyer, or Lauyer determination.

11. Public documents, user rights, and intellectual property

Portuguese laws, official publications, and court decisions remain subject to the legal status, public-sector rules, database rights, copyright rules, and notices applicable to their source. Lauyer does not claim ownership of official legal texts.

Lauyer’s software, branding, interfaces, tool definitions, prompts, formatting, and original documentation are owned by Pedro Martins or licensors. You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as intended. No rights are granted to extract branding, source code, prompts, or protected databases.

12. Third-party services

The Service depends on Cloudflare, Google, Stripe, OpenRouter, model providers, DGSI, Diário da República, MCP clients, and other infrastructure or platform providers. Their services, decisions, outages, terms, and data practices are outside Lauyer’s control.

A third-party failure may interrupt sign-in, email, payment, search, retrieval, or AI features. Lauyer is not responsible for third-party content or acts, but this does not remove rights that cannot legally be excluded.

13. Suspension, termination, and account closure

You may stop using Lauyer and request account closure at privacy@lauyer.org. Canceling a subscription and closing an account are separate actions. Account closure does not automatically create a refund or erase records that must be retained for security, payment, tax, dispute, or legal reasons.

We may limit, suspend, or terminate access for non-payment, material breach, abusive load, security risk, unlawful use, provider requirements, or harm to users, sources, or the Service. Where reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy the issue.

14. Service changes and availability

Lauyer is evolving. We may add, remove, replace, or change tools, models, sources, plans, quotas, integrations, or features. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, timely, secure, complete, or error-free availability, or continued availability of a particular source or model.

Material changes to paid features will be communicated when practical. If a change materially reduces a prepaid paid service, mandatory law and the Billing & Refunds Policy continue to apply.

15. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lauyer disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, currency, source availability, and legal outcome.

Nothing in these Terms excludes statutory guarantees or consumer rights that cannot be waived. You remain responsible for deadlines, filings, advice, decisions, source verification, and compliance with professional and legal duties.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lauyer and Pedro Martins are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, lost-profit, lost-opportunity, business-interruption, reputation, data-loss, missed-deadline, legal-cost, or third-party damages arising from the Service or an upstream source.

For business users, and only for claims that may lawfully be limited, total aggregate liability is capped at the amount paid to Lauyer during the three months before the event giving rise to the claim, or €50 if nothing was paid. For consumers, this clause applies only to the extent it is transparent, proportionate, and permitted by mandatory consumer law. No limit applies to fraud, willful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability that law does not allow us to limit.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer, mandatory protections and competent courts available under the law of your habitual residence remain unaffected.

Contact privacy@lauyer.org first so we can try to resolve a dispute. Portuguese consumers may also consult the official consumer portal and a competent consumer alternative-dispute-resolution entity. Court access remains available where applicable.

18. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms by publishing a revised version and changing the last-updated date. Material changes affecting an active paid plan will receive reasonable advance notice by email or through the Service when practical.

Questions, notices, account requests, and complaints may be sent to Pedro Martins at privacy@lauyer.org.
