The second prompt gives the assistant a retrieval plan and a verification format. Other useful constraints include:

• name the court or courts;
• specify since and until dates;
• ask for process and diploma numbers exactly as published;
• request direct quotations only when full text was fetched;
• require a source URL beside each material claim;

What AI Summaries Can and Cannot Do

Lauyer can ask an AI model to summarize a fetched decision or act. This is useful for triage: deciding whether a long document deserves closer reading, identifying the operative section, or producing a first checklist of issues.

It is not a substitute for the document. Generated summaries can omit an exception, confuse a headnote with the full reasoning, misread procedural history, or invent a citation. A model also cannot tell you that a later authority changed the position unless that later source is retrieved and supplied.

Privacy and Professional Responsibility

Your AI client, Lauyer, the legal source, and an AI model can all be separate processing points. That matters when a query contains client details, employee information, privileged communications, criminal-offence data, or another person’s identifiers.

Keep searches source-focused. Remove names and facts that are not needed. Before using any external AI or MCP service for professional work, check your secrecy duties, client instructions, workplace policy, records rules, and lawful basis for processing personal data.

Lauyer does not keep a private mirror of the Portuguese legal corpus. Ordinary searches are fetched live. AI summaries are different: the selected legal text is sent through OpenRouter to the configured model provider. The Privacy Policy describes the complete data flow.
